Target Information
Mouse gastric intrinsic factor (GIF) is a secreted glycoprotein encoded by the Gif gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 6. It is predominantly synthesized and secreted by gastric parietal cells, with a molecular weight of approximately 45 kDa and conserved glycosylation sites essential for structural integrity. The protein harbors a specific cobalamin-binding domain that mediates high-affinity binding to vitamin B12, preventing its degradation in the gastrointestinal tract. Mouse GIF shows tissue-restricted expression limited to gastric mucosa, with conserved functional motifs across mammalian orthologs. It contains an N-terminal secretion signal peptide and a C-terminal binding domain, and shares high sequence homology with other rodent GIF orthologs with subtype-specific structural characteristics.
