Target Information
Mouse Folate Receptor 1, Adult (FOLR1) is a GPI-anchored glycoprotein that mediates high-affinity endocytosis of folate and its conjugates. Expressed apically in kidney proximal tubules, choroid plexus, and placental trophoblast, it ensures folate uptake for one-carbon metabolism, nucleotide synthesis, and methylation reactions. FOLR1 selectively binds physiological folates with nanomolar affinity and is released into circulation by GPI-anchor cleavage. As the primary folate gateway in adult tissues, FOLR1 is an important target for studies of nutrient transport, developmental biology, and antifolate pharmacology.
