Target Information

Mouse defensin alpha 4, corticostatin (Defa4) is a 3.5 kDa cationic peptide whose three intramolecular disulfides stabilize a triple-stranded β-sheet that inserts into microbial membranes. A solvent-exposed 10-aa "KVE" loop (aa 15-24) between the second and third cysteine bridges folds into a β-hairpin unique among murine α-defensins, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after secretion and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native Defa4 in Paneth cell granules, small-intestinal crypts, and colonic mucus, delivering crisp apical granules and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to Defa1 or Defa5.
