Mouse DEFA11 is a small secreted antimicrobial peptide with conserved cysteine-rich structural motifs that maintain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It is predominantly produced by epithelial and mucosal cell populations and secreted onto body surface barriers. Its compact soluble peptide architecture and mucosa-specific expression differentiate it from transmembrane receptors, cytoplasmic scaffold adaptors and chromatin-interacting nuclear transcriptional regulators with simplified single-domain assemblies and widespread expression in internal somatic tissues.
