Its intracellular catalytic multi-domain structure and liver-enriched expression distinguish it from transmembrane cell surface receptors, secreted circulating signaling ligands and chromatin-associated nuclear transcriptional regulators with simplified single-domain assemblies and widespread expression across diverse non-hepatic somatic tissues.
