Mouse Cystatin B is a cytosolic cysteine protease inhibitor that binds and neutralizes cathepsins and other lysosomal proteases, protecting cells from unwanted proteolysis. It modulates antigen processing, apoptosis, and oxidative stress responses in brain, liver, and immune tissues. Loss or imbalance of Cystatin B activity disrupts protein homeostasis and cellular integrity. As a key guardian of intracellular protease activity, it is an important target for studies of neurodegeneration, lysosomal function, and inflammatory regulation.
