Target Information
Mouse contactin associated protein 1 (CNTNAP1) is a transmembrane adhesion protein encoded by the Cntnap1 gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 3. It belongs to the neurexin superfamily, featuring conserved extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains, fibronectin type-III repeats, a single transmembrane segment and a cytoplasmic tail. It localizes to neuronal membranes and myelinating glial cells, with tissue-specific expression in mouse brain and spinal cord, with minimal levels in peripheral tissues. The protein mediates cell adhesion and neuronal circuit formation, with conserved motifs for intermolecular interaction and structural stability. Mouse CNTNAP1 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue distribution differentiating it from CNTNAP2 and other neurexin family members.
