Target Information

Mouse complement factor H, a 155 kDa soluble glycoprotein built from 20 short consensus repeats, patrols plasma and endothelial surfaces to restrain the alternative pathway. By competing with factor B for C3b binding, accelerating decay of C3 and C5 convertases, and serving as cofactor for factor I-mediated C3b cleavage, it shields host cells from unintended complement damage. Abundant in serum, kidney and liver, its loss or mutation unleashes uncontrolled C3 activation; thus, factor H is a valued ELISA, Western blot or immunostaining target for tracing complement dysregulation in glomerulonephritis, hemolytic uremic syndrome and age-related macular degeneration models .
