Target Information
Mouse collagen type II is a 140 kDa homotrimeric fibril whose Gly-X-Y repeats wind into a quarter-staggered array, dominating hyaline cartilage and vitreous humor. A solvent-exposed 14-aa "KVE" loop (aa 359-372) within the triple helix folds into a β-turn unique among mouse fibrillar collagens, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after pepsin and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native collagen II in articular cartilage, intervertebral discs, and notochord sheath, delivering crisp fibrillar tracks and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to collagen I or III.
