Target Information
Mouse R-type voltage-gated calcium channel α1E (CACNA1E) forms the pore of CaV2.3 channels, mediating rapidly inactivating Ca²⁺ currents in neurons, neuroendocrine cells, and myocytes. The subunit activates at modest depolarizations, fine-tuning transmitter release, repetitive firing, and hormone secretion. CACNA1E associates with β, α2δ, and γ subunits for proper trafficking and gating modulation. As a critical regulator of high-threshold Ca²⁺ entry, α1E is a key target for studies of synaptic plasticity, pain signaling, and neuronal excitability.
