Target Information

Mouse ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) is a 350-kDa serine/threonine kinase ubiquitously expressed in mouse tissues-with heightened activity in proliferative cells (e.g., bone marrow, intestinal epithelium, embryonic tissues). As a core sensor of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), it initiates DNA damage response (DDR) signaling: upon activation, it phosphorylates downstream substrates (e.g., p53, Chk2) to halt cell cycle progression, promote DNA repair, or induce apoptosis if damage is irreparable. It also regulates telomere maintenance and oxidative stress responses, safeguarding genomic stability and cellular homeostasis. Critical for embryonic development and tissue integrity, its dysfunction impairs DDR and increases cancer susceptibility. As a key guardian of genome stability, mouse ATM is a critical target for studying DNA repair mechanisms, cancer biology, and neurodegenerative disorders.
