Its multi-domain lysosomal enzyme structure and ubiquitous cellular distribution differentiate it from cell-surface transmembrane receptors, secreted signaling cytokines and chromatin-binding nuclear transcription factors with simplified single-domain assemblies that show tissue-restricted expression patterns in specialized cell groups.
