Target Information
Mouse aquaporin 9 (AQP9) is a transmembrane water/glycerol channel protein encoded by the Aqp9 gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 4. It belongs to the aquaporin family, featuring six conserved transmembrane domains and two asparagine-proline-alanine motifs critical for substrate permeability. It localizes to plasma membrane, with tissue-specific expression in mouse liver, kidney, leukocytes and gastrointestinal tract, with negligible levels in heart and skeletal muscle. AQP9 mediates passive transport of water, glycerol and other small neutral solutes across cell membranes. Mouse AQP9 shares conserved structural motifs with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct substrate selectivity that differentiates it from other aquaporin isoforms in rodents.
