Target Information
Mouse activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1) is a nuclear basic leucine zipper transcription factor of the CREB/ATF family, a core regulator of gene expression in response to cellular signaling. It features a conserved N-terminal transactivation domain, a central basic DNA-binding region, and a C-terminal leucine zipper motif critical for dimerization. It localizes primarily to the nucleus of mouse neuronal, cardiac and immune cells, with negligible levels in quiescent somatic cells. The protein mediates binding to cAMP-responsive element sequences, with conserved motifs for interacting with co-activators and transcriptional machinery. Mouse ATF1 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct regulatory specificity differentiating it from CREB and ATF2.
