Target Information

Homocysteine is a 135-Da thiol amino acid whose sulfhydryl-propionate side chain forms a stable hapten; a solvent-exposed 4-aa "KVE" motif (homocysteine-thiolactone) linked to carrier presents a fixation-stable epitope unique among thiols. Antibodies to this conjugate detect homocysteine in plasma, hepatic cytosol and cell culture, yielding crisp cytoplasmic puncta and single-band blots without cross-reaction to cysteine or methionine.
