Target Information
Equine Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP2) is a protein that inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are involved in matrix degradation and tissue remodeling. TIMP2 is expressed in various tissues and plays a key role in regulating MMP activity. It binds to MMPs and prevents their proteolytic activity, thus maintaining tissue integrity. In horses, TIMP2 is involved in protecting joint cartilage and is associated with conditions like osteoarthritis.
