Equine RANTES is a secreted chemokine cytokine with conserved chemokine-fold structural domains that maintain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It is produced by activated T lymphocyte and epithelial cell populations and secreted into extracellular compartments. Its soluble signaling ligand architecture and immune activation-dependent expression separate it from membrane-bound receptors, cytoplasmic scaffold adaptors and chromatin-interacting nuclear transcriptional regulators with simplified single-domain assemblies and constitutive expression in resting somatic tissues.
