Target Information
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a 5α-reduced androgen characterized by a saturated A-ring that confers three- to five-fold higher androgen-receptor affinity than testosterone. Formed peripherally from testosterone by steroid 5α-reductase isoenzymes, the 19-carbon steroid circulates at nanomolar concentrations, largely bound to sex hormone-binding globulin. Its planar structure and short side-chain render DHT resistant to aromatization, directing signaling exclusively through androgen receptors. Antibodies elicited against DHT-protein conjugates exhibit strong selectivity over testosterone, 5α-androstane-3α,17β-diol and related androstanes, enabling precise detection of the active androgen in serum, tissue and cellular extracts across rodent and human matrices.
