Target Information
Canine vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGF-B) is a secreted glycoprotein of the VEGF family, a key regulator of vascular homeostasis and lipid metabolism in endothelial cells. It features conserved N-terminal VEGF homology domains, a cysteine-knot motif for dimerization, and a C-terminal domain critical for receptor binding and specificity. It localizes to the extracellular matrix of canine cardiac, skeletal muscle and vascular tissues, with negligible levels in non-vascular and epithelial tissues. The protein mediates VEGFR-1 activation and endothelial cell survival, with conserved motifs for binding to heparan sulfate proteoglycans. Canine VEGF-B shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue distribution differentiating it from VEGF-A and VEGF-C.
