Canine S100A9 is a conserved small acidic protein featuring typical EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. It is highly expressed in myeloid cell populations and mainly distributed in the cytosolic compartment. This protein maintains stable monomeric and heterodimeric structural integrity under physiological conditions. Its distinct calcium-binding fold and innate immune cell enrichment clearly differentiate it from transmembrane, nuclear and secreted matrix protein families.
