Target Information
Canine Kidney Injury Molecule 1 (KIM-1) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on the apical surface of injured proximal tubular epithelial cells. It functions as a scavenger receptor, mediating the phagocytosis of apoptotic bodies and limiting inflammatory damage during renal repair. Up-regulated within hours of ischemic or toxic insult, KIM-1 is a sensitive, tissue-specific biomarker of acute kidney injury. As a key indicator of tubular damage and regeneration, it is an important target for studies of nephrotoxicity and renal disease in dogs.
