Target Information
Bovine interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine encoded by the IL1B gene in Bos taurus, mapped to chromosome 23. It belongs to the interleukin 1 family, synthesized as an inactive pro-peptide requiring cleavage for activation, with a mature molecular weight of approximately 17 kDa. It localizes to cytoplasm and extracellular matrix, predominantly expressed in bovine monocytes, macrophages and activated neutrophils, with restricted distribution in spleen and lymphoid tissues. It harbors a conserved IL-1 family signature motif and lacks a signal peptide for classical secretion. Bovine IL-1β shares conserved functional domains with mammalian orthologs, with distinct amino acid residues differentiating it from IL-1α and other family members.
