Target Information

Bovine haptoglobin (HP) is a secreted acute-phase glycoprotein of the globin-binding family, a core mediator of hemoglobin clearance and inflammatory response regulation. It features two conserved α-subunits and two β-subunits linked by disulfide bonds, a hemoglobin-binding pocket in the β-subunit, and structural domains critical for ligand affinity and protein stability. It localizes to the plasma and extracellular fluids of bovine hepatic and circulatory systems, with negligible levels in non-vascular and resting tissues. The protein mediates hemoglobin-HP complex formation and macrophage uptake, with conserved motifs for binding to hemoglobin and immune receptors. Bovine HP shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct binding specificity differentiating it from other acute-phase proteins.
