Target Information
Bovine collagen type X (COL10) is a short-chain non-fibrillar collagen encoded by the COL10A1 gene in Bos taurus, mapped to chromosome 1. It belongs to the fibril-associated collagens with interrupted helices family, featuring a conserved triple-helical collagen domain, N-terminal non-collagenous domain and C-terminal globular domain. It localizes predominantly to extracellular matrix, with tissue-specific expression restricted to bovine hypertrophic chondrocytes in growth plate cartilage and developing bone tissues. The protein forms hexagonal lattices and mediates matrix mineralization and chondrocyte maturation, with conserved structural motifs critical for oligomerization. Bovine COL10 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct chain assembly features differentiating it from fibrillar collagen subtypes.
