Target Information
Bovine bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP-7) is a 139-residue cystine-knot cytokine belonging to the transforming growth factor-β superfamily. Synthesized as a 431-amino-acid pre-proprotein, it undergoes proteolytic liberation of the C-terminal mature dimer, which is stabilized by a single inter-chain disulfide and seven intra-chain disulfides. The homodimer presents two symmetrical receptor-binding epitopes that dock with high affinity to type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. Constitutively expressed in bovine kidney, bone and peri-articular cartilage, BMP-7 is secreted as a soluble glycoprotein that localizes to extracellular matrix. Antibodies raised against recombinant bovine BMP-7 recognize both the mature dimer and larger precursor forms with negligible cross-reactivity to BMP-2, BMP-4 or other TGF-β members, enabling selective detection in bovine tissue extracts and culture media.
