Target Information

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the universal energy currency composed of adenine, ribose, and a triphosphate tail linked by high-energy phosphoanhydride bonds. Present at millimolar levels in viable cells, the molecule drives thermodynamically unfavorable reactions through phosphoryl transfer, while its Mg²⁺-complexed form stabilizes nucleotide-binding pockets of kinases, ATPases, and molecular motors. ATP also functions as an extracellular signaling ligand for purinergic receptors once released via membrane transporters or vesicular exocytosis. Antibodies raised against ATP-protein conjugates recognize the intact nucleotide with negligible cross-reactivity to ADP, AMP, or GTP, permitting direct visualization and quantification of ATP distribution in fixed tissues and lysates.

Target Adenosine Triphosphate
Target Synonym Adenosine-5'-Triphosphate
