Target Information
Angiotensin II affects the central nervous system by enhancing vasopressin production and induces vasoconstriction by acting on the smooth muscle of veins and arteries. Angiotensin I is transformed into angiotensin II (AII) by the removal of two C-terminal residues via the action of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). This process primarily occurs in the lungs, but ACE is also found in endothelial cells, kidney epithelial cells, and the brain. In rabbits, AngII also has an important effect on reproductive function. Studies have shown that AngII induces ovulation in rabbit ovaries and promotes ovulation by stimulating prostaglandin secretion.
