Target Information

Zona Pellucida Sperm-Binding Protein 3 is encoded by the ZP3 gene in pigs. It is a glycoprotein found in the zona pellucida, an extracellular matrix surrounding oocytes. It is essential for sperm binding to the zona pellucida. It induces the acrosome reaction in sperm cells at the beginning of fertilization. Porcine ZP consists of glycoproteins ZP2, ZP3 and ZP4, but only the ZP3/ZP4 heterocomplex has sperm binding activity.
