Target Information

Serum Amyloid A (SAA) proteins are a family of apolipoproteins associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma. They are secreted during the acute phase of inflammation. Their functions include: Transporting cholesterol to the liver for secretion into bile; recruiting immune cells to inflammatory sites; Inducing enzymes that degrade extracellular matrix. In cases of inflammation, SAA becomes the primary apolipoprotein of high density lipoprotein (HDL), replacing apolipoprotein A1.
