Target Information
Pancreatic prohormone precursor, also known as proinsulin, is a fascinating protein synthesized in the beta cells of the Pancreatic Islets-specialized regions within the pancreas. Pancreatic Prohormone Percursor is encoded by the PPY gene in pigs. It is secreted by Pancreatic polypeptide (PP) cells, which are a minor population of pancreatic endocrine cells. Correct proinsulin structure is crucial for the proper folding of mature insulin. PPY is a member of the neuropeptide Y (NPY) family of peptides.
