Target Information
Cardiac Phospholamban, also known as PLN or PLB, plays a crucial role in regulating calcium levels in cardiac muscle cells. Cardiac Phospholamban is encoded by the PLN gene in pigs. Phospholamban is a 52-amino acid protein that can be phosphorylated by PKA and CAMKII and dephosphorylated by protein phosphatase 1. PLN exists in equilibrium between its monomeric and pentameric forms. It is a critical player in maintaining calcium homeostasis in the heart, impacting muscle contraction and overall cardiac function.
