Target Information

Metaxin 1 is located on the outer membrane of mitochondria. It is a component of the mitochondrial protein translocation apparatus. Metaxin 1 is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues. It plays a role in protein transport into mitochondria. Metaxin-1 is encoded by the MTX1 gene in pigs. MTX-1 and MTX-2 are essential components of the metaxin complex. They play distinct roles in coupling motor proteins to mitochondria to facilitate transport.
