Target Information

Malate Dehydrogenase, Mitochondrial is encoded by the MDH2 gene in pigs. MDH2 catalyzes the reversible oxidation of malate to oxaloacetate. It plays an important role in the Krebs cycle for energy metabolism. MDH2 exists as a dimer, highlighting the connection between protein stability and enzymatic activity. It has been identified as a potential candidate gene for fat volume selection in pigs.
