Specifications
Target Information
Alpha lactalbumin forms the regulatory subunit of the lactose synthase (LS) heterodimer. Together with beta 1,4-galactosyltransferase (beta4Gal-T1) (the catalytic component), it enables LS to produce lactose by transferring galactose moieties to glucose. Alpha lactalbumin is encoded by the LALBA gene in pigs. In the lactose synthesis pathway of the sow, LALBA and B4GALT1 are both considered to be the critical genes.
