Target Information
Porcine Indoxyl Sulfate is a major protein-bound uremic toxin synthesized in the liver from indole produced by intestinal flora. In porcine models of renal dysfunction, IS accumulates due to reduced clearance, acting as a potent pro-oxidant and pro-inflammatory mediator. It triggers cellular senescence and interstitial fibrosis by activating the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AhR). Researchers utilize this target to investigate the pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease, vascular calcification, and the efficacy of renal replacement therapies in swine.
