Target Information
Glucosylceramidase (EC 3.2.1.45) is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of D-glucosyl-N-acylsphingosine into D-glucose and N-acylsphingosine. It is encoded by the GBA gene in pigs. In simpler terms, it removes a glucose molecule from a specific type of lipid called glucosylceramide. This process is essential for proper glycoprotein maturation within the endoplasmic reticulum. It is a lysosomal membrane protein that cleaves the O-beta-D-glucosidic linkage of glucosylceramide and aryl-beta-glucosides.
