Target Information
Glutamate Decarboxylase 1 (GAD1), also known as GAD67, is an enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the synthesis of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). In mammals, GAD exists in two isoforms: GAD67 (GAD1) and GAD65 (GAD2). Glutamate Decarboxylase 1 is encoded by the GAD1 gene in pigs. GAD has been proposed as a key beta-cell autoantigen in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
