Target Information

Erythropoietin (EPO), also known as erythropoetin, haematopoietin, or haemopoietin, is a glycoprotein cytokine primarily secreted by the kidneys in response to cellular hypoxia. Erythropoietin is encoded by the EPO gene in pigs. The gene structure and sequence show a high degree of homology with the corresponding human and murine gene. Its main function is to stimulate proliferation, differentiation and maturation of erythroid precursors in hematopoietic organs.
