Target Information
Dystrophin is encoded by the DMD gene in pigs. It plays a vital role in strengthening muscle fibers and protecting them during muscle contraction and relaxation. The dystrophin protein is a functional link between the actin cytoskeleton and the dystrophin glycoprotein complex (DGC). Through the DGC, dystrophin transmits the force generated during muscle contraction to large extracellular proteins and ultimately to tendons and bones.
