Target Information

Cholesterol 7-alpha-monooxygenase (CYP7A1), also known as cholesterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase, is an essential enzyme encoded by the CYP7A1 gene in pigs. CYP7A1 is a cytochrome P450 enzyme located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). CYP7A1 is the key rate-limiting enzyme for the synthesis of bile acid cholesterol in the liver via the predominant pathway. The gene has been described as susceptible to epigenetic regulation, including DNA methylation and histone modification.
