Target Information

Elastase belongs to the serine protease family. These enzymes are characterized by the reactivity of a serine residue in their active sites. Elastase has a remarkable ability to break down elastin, the specific protein found in elastic fibers. Chymotrypsin-Like Elastase Family Member 1 is encoded by the CELA1 gene in pigs. It is a member of chymotrypsin-like elastases which are pancreatic serine proteinases that digest dietary proteins.
