Pancreatic Alpha-Amylase is an enzyme produced by the pancreas. It plays a crucial role in digesting carbohydrates in the small intestine. Pancreatic alpha-amylase breaks down starches and glycogen into smaller sugar molecules. Pancreatic Alpha-Amylase is encoded by the AMY2 gene in pigs. Pancreatic α-amylase is mainly responsible for in vivo degradation of starch. After being secreted by the pancreas, pancreatic alpha-amylase enters the small intestine to assist in carbohydrate digestion.
