Target Information
Medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) is a crucial enzyme involved in fatty acid metabolism. It is one of four acyl-CoA dehydrogenases that catalyze the initial dehydrogenation step in the mitochondrial β-oxidation of fatty acids. It is part of the acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (ACAD) family. It is a positional and functional candidate gene for fatness and body composition traits. Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) serves as a required co-factor for MCAD to function.
