Target Information

Surfactant protein B (SP-B) is an essential lipid-associated protein found in pulmonary surfactant. SP-B rearranges lipid molecules in the fluid lining the lung. This rearrangement allows tiny air sacs in the lung, called alveoli, to more easily inflate during breathing. Surfactant Associated Protein B is encoded by the sheep gene SFTPB. Research has shown that estrogen effects on Sftpb expression require an interaction of ERβ and ErbB4.
