Target Information

Interferon alpha is encoded by the sheep gene IFNA. IFNA is a member of the type I IFNs, which have pleiotropic functions. All type I IFNs bind to a specific cell surface receptor complex known as the IFN-α receptor (IFNAR). This receptor consists of two chains: IFNAR1 and IFNAR2. It can induce an antiviral state. IFNAs are encoded by multiple non-allelic genes in all mammalian species studied.
