Target Information

Caspase 9 is encoded by the sheep gene CASP9. It plays a critical role as an initiator caspase within the apoptotic pathway, which is essential for normal tissue development, particularly in the central nervous system. Caspase-9 belongs to a family of cysteine-aspartic proteases, collectively involved in apoptosis and cytokine signaling. It is a member of the caspases, which are important mediators of apoptosis. Initiator caspases, caspase-8 and -9, exert regulatory roles by activating downstream effector caspases, including caspase-3, -6 or -7, which cleave various cellular substrates.
