Target Information

Caspase-8, a caspase protein encoded by the CASP8 gene, primarily targets caspase-3. These enzymes, known as orthologs, have been identified across various mammals with complete genome data, and intriguingly, they also exist in birds. Sequential activation of caspases is pivotal during the execution phase of cell apoptosis. Initiator caspases, caspase-8 and -9, exert regulatory roles by activating downstream effector caspases, including caspase-3, -6 or -7, which cleave various cellular substrates.
