Target Information
Organophosphorus compounds represent a massive class of synthetic chemicals primarily utilized as broad-spectrum insecticides, acaricides, and anthelmintics. In animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, they are used to control ectoparasites (like ticks, lice, and flies) on livestock or to treat pests in animal housing and pastures. Because these compounds are often lipophilic, they can easily bioaccumulate in animal fatty tissues and transfer into meat, eggs, and milk if withdrawal periods are violated or if animals ingest contaminated feed. They pose severe food safety risks due to their potent neurotoxicity; they irreversibly inhibit the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme, causing nervous system overstimulation in both animals and humans, making strict testing and Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) essential.
