Target Information
Myxobolus cerebralis is a myxosporean parasite that targets salmonids, including salmon and trout species, causing whirling disease in both farmed and wild populations. It was first identified in rainbow trout in Germany in 1893. Whirling disease primarily impacts juvenile fish, such as fingerlings and fry, leading to skeletal deformities and neurological damage.
