Target Information

Protein Wnt-2 serves as a ligand for members of the frizzled family of seven transmembrane receptors and operates within the canonical Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway. In mice, Wnt2 is expressed in the ventral midbrain, where it facilitates the proliferation and differentiation of dopaminergic neuron precursor cells by activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Wnt2 specifically induces the phosphorylation of LRP5/6 and DVL2/3, leading to the activation of β-catenin, which plays a critical role in SN471 dopaminergic cells. Mice deficient in Wnt2 exhibit a reduction in dopaminergic neuron precursor cells and a decreased number of resultant neurons, underscoring Wnt2's essential role in the development of dopaminergic neurons in the ventral thalamus.
